League of Legends - Most OP Champion

Updated on April 26, 2012

LoL - Most OP Champion

The most OP (overpowered) Champion in League of Legends is always a subject of much debate. From patch nerfs to personal opinion, what is considered the most OP champion seems to change from person to person and is a hotly discussed topic amongst the forums.

However I have compiled a list based on my own research and trawling of various forums to discern what people consider to be the most overpowered Champions in League of Legends.

Shaco - The Demon Jester

Shaco is the resident 'homicidal insane clown' assassin. Shaco is a great jungler and high melee/stealth DPS class which is offset by the fact that he is very fragile. If played correctly however, Shaco truly is a force to deal with.

Abilities

Backstab (Passive) - Shaco deals bonus damage of 20% if he strikes a unit from behind.

Deceive (Active) - Shaco stealths for 3.5 seconds, teleporting to a nearby location. If he attacks while stealthed, he will critical hit for bonus damage.

Jack In The Box (Active) - Shaco will produce a Jack In The Box at a target location. The box will stealth after 2 seconds, and then pop out when an enemy comes near. It will fear them for a few seconds and deal magic damage. Casting Jack In The Box will break Shaco’s stealth. Cannot be cast inside walls.

Two-Shiv Poison (Passive) - Shaco’s attacks will poison his target, reducing their movement speed for 2 seconds and causing miss chance against minions.

Two-Shiv Poison (Active) - Using the active ability will deal half your weapon damage plus extra damage to a target enemy. It will also poison them for 3 seconds. The passive ability will not work whilst this is on cooldown.

Hallucinate (Active/Ultimate) – Shaco’s ultimate creates an illusion of himself nearby, this illusion will deals 25% less damage but receives 50% extra damage. The illusion only deals half damage to towers and inhibitors. Upon death, the illusion will explode dealing damage to nearby enemies. Lasts up to 18 seconds.

Ezreal The Prodigal Explorer

The boy genius with the gift of magic flowing through his veins and a powerful magical amulet of course, Ezreal is a popular choice for a ranged character for Team Ranked Games.

Abilities

Rising Spell Force (Innate) – If a target is hit with any of Ezreal’s abilities, his attack speed is increased by 10% for 6 seconds, stacking up 5 times.

Mystic Shot (Active) – Ezreal fires a bolt of energy. If this bolt strikes an enemy unit it reduces all of Ezreal’s cooldowns by 1 second.

Essense Flux (Active) – A wave of energy is fired by Ezreal at a targeted area. Any enemy champions the wave passes through are damaged and have their attack speed slowed for 5 seconds. Any allied champions it passes through have their attack speed increased for 5 seconds.

Arcane Shift (Active) – Teleports Ezreal to a nearby location and fires a homing arrow at the nearest enemy unit, dealing damage.

Trueshot Barrage (Active/Ultimate) – Takes 1 second to channel, but fires a powerful barrage of energy missiles which deal damage to each enemy unit they pass through. It deals 8% less damage for each unit it hits and then 30% less damage for any hit after the first 4.

Pantheon The Artisan of War

This lethal stone faced warrior from Mount Gargantuan is another popular choice for Ranked Games, especially with his Global Ultimate when used effectively can be devastating.

Abilities

Aegis Protection (Innate) – Once Pantheon has attacked or cast spells 4 times, he will block the next normal attack as long as it deals more then 40 damage to him.

Spear Shot (Active) – Hurls a spear at an opponent, dealing damage plus a percent of his attack in physical damage.

Aegis of Zeonia (Active) – Leaps at an enemy and shield bashes them, which also stuns them. Using this ability will instantly refresh his Aegis Protection.

Heartseeker Strike (Passive)Certain Death – 100% critical strike is gained against targets below 15% of their max health.

(Active) – Deals 5 swift strikes to those in front of him, dealing damage plus a percent of his weapon damage in physical damage per strike. This ability will deal double damage to enemy Champions.

Grand Skyfall (Active/Ultimate) – Pantheon will leap high into the air and crash down on a target area 1.5 seconds later. Will deal magic damage to units at the centre and slows them by 35% for 1 second. If channelling for this ability is cancelled, the cooldown is reduced to 10 seconds. This ability will ignore spell immunity buffs.

Kassadin The Void Walker

Kassadin is an assassin/mage/melee class, and is another extremely popular choice as a powerful Champion. A man that looked upon 'the Void', a place between worlds and dimensions. Seeing the horrors there changed him forever, and now he dedicates himself to protecting us from those things that scratch at the door.

Abilities

Void Stone (Innate) – Kassadin can reduce his magic damage by 15% but transforms this damage into bonus attack speed. This lasts up to 4 seconds.

Null Sphere (Active) - An ethereal bolt of void energy is fired, which deals magic damage and silences the target for a few seconds.

Nether Blade (Passive) - Melee attacks restore Kassadin's mana. This effect will triple if used against Champions.

(Active) - Kassadin gains bonus armour penetration for 5 seconds.

Force Pulse (Active) - Kassadin draws energy from spells cast in his vicinity, each spell cast gives him a charge. Upon reaching 6 charges, Kassadin can use Force Pulse to deal out magic damage which slows his enemies in a cone in front of him. The effect lasts for 3 seconds.

Riftwalk (Active) - Kassadin will teleport to a nearby location, and deals magic damage to surrounding enemies. Each subsequent Riftwalk in the next 7 seconds costs another 100 mana and deals additional damage. The cost and damage can stack up to 10 times.

The Beauty of Balance

The beauty of League of Legends is that the game is generally extremely well balanced. You don't really have OP Champions, you just have great players. Teamwork is often more important then anything else, and an understanding of the game mechanics and how to play AGAINST each of the Champions does away with the whole 'OP' scenario. The Champions I have listed here are four of the most popular Champs for Level 30 Team Ranked games. This does not mean they are the best, just that the top players enjoy their play-style. Champion trends will constantly be changing, for example my two personal favourite Champions are actually Nidalee and Ashe - none of the ones listed above.
